Howdy all! This topic is for me or the other system administrators to let you know about issues relative to the operation of the system. If something happens that will impact system performance or if I made modifications which will have a visible system impact, I'll let everyone know here. This thread will be stickied so it stays at the top. Enjoy! Eric |

9/13/2013 - Update #1 Hello all! Just a status brief to let you know where we're at with the system right now. As of right now (11 PM EDT 9/13) the basic forum system is working correctly and has been tested. The file section is working off the front door page and downloads can take place as needed. We're currently working on software for a picture section, that however is still pending. We're also working on uploading the forum message archive for viewing, but please be patient there as that may take a little time. I don't like the way the main page looks currently, however we'll address that with the developer in the next few days. For right now it works. For the near future we're going to run on PHPbb. However, I'm not ruling another forum software out in the future such as IP Board, simple machines, etc.... As you know this system was engineered quickly and you can expect some bumps in the road for a little while until we stabilize out. Most professional suites can convert forums, users, and messages from PHPbb without difficulty so what we are doing here in the interim is not wasted effort. I'm also pleased to announce the appointment of Dave (Daveinet) as the associate administrator of this system and as my primary backup. Dave has been a Revcon owner for many years and has been instrumental in many of the improvement efforts and the knowledge distribution for these coaches. I personally have benefitted from his expertise while working on my coach, and I'm glad to see him working with us as we move forward. Also, please expect at least one, perhaps two moderators to be appointed as we move forward. Not that our forum will need extensive moderation, but I'm a firm believer in addressing issues before they become major. Several sets of eyes are better then 1 or 2. As always, PM me, EMAIL, or contact me if you have questions or concerns. Please don't be afraid to let us know how things are going, either good or bad, and if you have suggestions or ideas to improve the system. Thanks Eric |

9/17/2013 - Update #2 Yesterday I upgraded the code for the front page, it's now formatted much better although it still have one or two minor glitches. A few more files were uploaded to the files section, the off-site links section was activated and populated, the on-site links were edited somewhat, and I cleaned up some minor editing that was needed on the forum boards. Barring anything breaking that's unforseen, the system should be good to go for the moment. Next major item to work on will be picture hosting. Thanks Eric |

9/21/2013 - Update #3 Fixed a glitch or two this evening. For starters I enabled quick reply for all topics and all forums, for some reason it defaulted to "off" in the initial setup. Also.... for some weird reason the system was set to require moderator approval of first posts, I didn't do that - it was part of the "out of the box" PHPbb configuration. I set that feature to "off" so it shouldn't trouble us any more. There were several posts awaiting approval and I approved them all. I was wondering why posts weren't showing up and that was the reason why. I found several member accounts sitting in the pending validation queue and approved them all as well. For some reason the EMAIL validator doesn't hit everyone 100% of the time, it's very easy to tell a legitimate account app from a spam 99 times out of 100. Whether it's people's spam box settings or the occasional ISP that filters IP's it's easy to accommodate. Anyway, all the first posts are now showing and all the account applications to date should be validated. We'll keep a closer eye on that going forward. Thanks Eric |

9/24/2013 - Update #4 I did some updating tonight on user permissions. I found some fields that for some reason didn't set up correctly initially. I went through and updated all current users by hand, so there should be no further problem with posts not showing up or needing moderation. Apologize this has taken so long, but I was only aware it was still a problem when I logged in this evening and found another post or two needing moderation approval. So, I dug deeper and fixed it. Thanks Eric |

11/14/2013 - Update #5 I'm still chasing the moderated post issue (users requiring to have their posts approved by a moderator). I've made another change that I'm hoping fixes the bug. If not, I'll keep working on it as we're made aware the problem still exists. Thanks, apologize for the slowness of getting this corrected. Eric |

3/1/2014 - Update #6 My webhost has let me know that the long-anticipated move to a new, faster server has taken place. If anyone sees the forums running abnormally or has problems, please drop me an EMAIL and let me know as soon as possible. Thanks Eric |

11/22/2015 - Update #7 Hi everyone... Just to keep you in the loop, I've been working on an email issue recently with my other system, New Caprice and since it uses the same host server as my police car forum the same problem has carried over here to our forum. There are new authentication standards (called DMARC if you want to look them up) that email providers use to keep spam down. I've had to make a few changes in how the system processes EMAIL to keep outgoing email's from the system being indexed as spam by ISP's, thereby resulting in non-delivery. Anyway.... if you see EMAIL coming through to you from the following address, it should be valid and from the Revcon Forums. You'll typically see EMAIL if you want a password change, you subscribe to a thread, or receive a private message from another user... "policein@sparkitservices.net" The reason that the address looks funky is that the system was set up rather quickly initially since, as you remember the Yahoo group was in dire straits when I turned up this forum site. I overlaid the network on an existing website that I already maintained so as to not cause my hosting provider to carve me out separate space for another domain name, so the base site is my Policeinterceptor.com site. The Revcon Forums IP redirects to the hosting site here. Anyway, you will probably now start to see EMAIL from the system in the future if the message fits one of the above criteria. Took a while to get things working correctly but the problem, for all intents and purposes, is now "patched". I'll call it fixed when at some point in the future I'm able to rename the EMAIL address to something Revcon related. Thanks Eric |

Hey everyone... Just a brief update for you, it's DNS service renewal time again. I've used Network Solutions for my DNS since the early 2000's (when they were really STILL Network Solutions). Ever since the company's acquisition by Web.Com a number of years back, they have slid, IMHO, down the slippery slide from reputable to UCK! as far as their ethos and customer service. So, now that their new pricing structure wants $37.99 for an annual (12 months) DNS re-up per domain name, they can go pack it. Soooo.... I'm transferring all my DNS over to another registrar sometime next week. This is just a heads-up that probably sometime during the later part of the week there will be a small flash of downtime on the system while the transfer actually takes place. So... if the site here 404's on you during that time, don't worry - I didn't embezzle the assets and fly off to Argentina. It'll come back as soon as the name servers do their thing. Thanks Eric |
