One more point...the only thing what is left from the original 6500 Watts Onan generator is its manual. It´s not so easy to find a new one which fits into the generator compartment.

The Onan had only 16 working hours on the counter, but it was too noisy for European campgrounds. Obviously it had to go.

I wanted to get a Honda but they are too big (tall) for the Revcon and also very expensive. So I´m thinking of buying a 3500 Watts Pramac inverter generator for 720 Euro (814 USD). It hasn´t got an electric starter but the switches and plugs are located on the side so they are readily accessible. And most of all: The dimensions are suitable for the compartment.

Solar is a common upgrade in Europe but it is just too weak to operate 2 ACs etc. in the middle of nowhere. We sometimes have hailstorms in our area. These two points prevent me from using any form of solar power. Just for your information: Europeans love to dry camp. In the North of Europe you can park for either free or close to free, and if you don’t hookup to electricity it’s always cheaper. So, it’s really common for European RVers to put a few solar panels on their roof to keep the batteries charged along the way. Green energy? Yes, of course. But not for our purpose. Sorry. Besides that it´s too expensive. I want to run my ACs in e.g. Sweden where nobody is around or at U.S. Car Meetings and open air car shows. There is usually a lot of noise, so who cares about a running generator? ;)

I'm surprised the Onan was too loud. Did it not have a proper muffler? Was the acoustical foam padding gone from around the compartment? Normally the OEM generators are way quieter than a portable generator. The Onan has all kinds of cooling baffles around the heads which also blocks out noise. Typically a portable generator counts on convection cooling, so the engine is fairly open and therefore noisy. I'd also be concerned about stuffing it in a compartment and it not having enough ventilation for cooling.

Hi, Dave! Silence is golden here in Europe and the campsites are small and very crowded. The people in this country like to complain about noisy RV ACs on rooftops. A generator on a campsite?
That´s not done. So the first owner of my Revcon removed the Onan. My plan is to mount the Pramac Inverter generator on a slide out, like here shown on a GMC Motorhome:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMchYDLrGWA&t=9s

The power in my Revcon is based on 220 volts, except for the built in blender in the kitchen. I´m personally not going to run the generator while driving. My mechanic had already the plan to put an extra cooling system inside of the generator compartment, but this is a subject for discussion.

The NuTone Food Center was very expensive in those days. It still is! I have checked the prices on Ebay for some NuTone accessories. Good lord.

So folks, that´s what we have done in 2021 so far. In my next posts I will go into detail about my "vibration problem" which I want to solve in spring/summer 2022. If you are interested, please refer to the "Slant-nose Support" section.

While my Revcon is sleeping it´s time to think about my To-Do List 2022... :? ;)

Some work is still left from 2021, my mechanic runs his shop alone and I´m only able to spend 3 weeks in a row during the summer time to help him out. Corona lockdowns didn´t help too. But together and step by step there will be some progress. The Revcon should be finished in summer 2023 because in July we are going up to Sweden. The trip is supposed to be a present for my milestone birthday.

Well, here is the To-Do List 2022:

1.) Most important, my vibration problem. Please refer to Board index/Slant-nose Support/Slant-nose Tech Talk".

2.) It´s not possible for me to get the correct small seals which are leaking from above.

Seal outside R. Forum.jpg
Seal outside R. Forum.jpg [ 150.77 KiB | Viewed 5813 times ]

I have the plan to replace the seals at the fixed windows with a sealant e.g. DAP Dynaflex Ultra Advanced. The seals on the bottom of the windows are not leaking so it should be enough to replace them only on the top and on the sides. We will see. I have already asked different companies in Germany and Austria but it is very expensive to create custom-made seals - up to 2.000 USD and more. So this is not an option for me.

3.) The exhaust manifold gasket on the passenger side is leaking. I have found some useful information on the internet. There it was pointed out that the center bolt is the one that will most likely break. This is because the other four have a hole that exists at the spark plug indent and can be lubed with penetrating oil. So put the oil in and give it time to penetrate, then heat the bolts and add some more oil. I have already ordered a new gasket. In my case with the 403 engine it should be possible to get to the bolts from above. My mechanic wanted to cut through the wheel case in order to reach the bolts.

4.) New paint for the bottom of the Revcon, hubcaps included. There are also some more spots to be done, like under the grill and on the front spoiler.

5.) Front headlight adjustment is still too low.

6.) The 2 cameras on the back need their own power line. Right now they are connect with the whole back lighting system which is too much.

7.) Preservation of tandem and undercarriage. There is some rust found as part of the safety inspection 2021.

8.) Installation second AC on the front part of the roof in order to create 2 different climate zones.

9.) Installation Pramac generator.

10.) New trim on the sides with Revcon lettering.

11.) Fuel leak - information from the net: If the smell only occurs when the tank is full, the problem could either be the lines (above) or an issue with a check valve that's stuck open in the fuel vent line going to the evaporative canister. This problem can actually cause fuel to leak onto the ground sometimes when filling the tanks.

Tank Setup R. Forum.jpg
Tank Setup R. Forum.jpg [ 42.62 KiB | Viewed 5813 times ]

I think that my Revcon hasn´t got a check valve. The problem could be a leaking fuel vent line (Nr. 7) or a faulty nozzle (Nr. 5). The leak only occurs when the tank is complete full. I hope that it´s not the tank. :?
